Martin Barber’s Tavern in Summerhill was a popular stopping place for teamsters in turnpike days. Later this was known as the Old Eagle Hotel. The 1855 wall map of Cayuga County shows it as E. G. Hatch’s Hotel. In 1894 it was purchased by sisters Maud and Jennie Fleming who remodeled it and renamed it the Summit House. Part of the building was used as a country store. Still later it served as a gas station. It still stands.
